Not Just Tactics is a Warmachine podcast featuring fresh perspectives on the game and its community. This will be done through product review, game play mechanics, tactics, lore, and various other content.
Not Just Tactics
Year-End Warmachine Roundup
Plans that started as a simple creative outlet turned into a fast-growing Warmachine community, and we’re taking a breath to recap what worked, what surprised us, and what’s next. We share real wins and fun misfires from past team events, then lay out our Adepticon goals and why you’ll see us roaming in NJT shirts, dice at the ready and schedules packed.
We announce a 30-point beginner-friendly tournament at Second City Games in Highland Park with a clean format that mirrors command starter builds. Expect coaching, list help via Longshanks, and spare painted armies available so newer players can jump in. We also spotlight Kithguard preorders, including practical assembly notes for complex kits, and a listener discount to make starting or expanding an army easier.
There’s heart here too. A listener’s message about loss prompts a candid story about how tabletop gaming can anchor you through grief. Between laughs about juggernaut lists and midnight group chats, we talk about why games matter: structure, friends, and small wins that stack into something bigger. From there we dig into the January rules update saying goodbye to the spell rack, clearer caster identity, likely shifts in lethality and what that means for list diversity, tournament clocks, and on-table decisions for both veterans and newcomers.
We’re exploring recorded games, possible streaming from the shop’s feature table, and maybe even an Iron Kingdoms RPG series if enough of you want it. If you’re excited about Warmachine, curious about the new rules, or looking for a community that will help you get your models built and on the table, you’re in the right place. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs a game night, and leave a review with what you want us to stream or cover next.

Hey there, listeners, NJT here, bringing you fresh perspectives on all things war machine and building the community we surround ourselves with. Remember, we're not just tactics. Hey Chris. Hello. Angus? Hey, how's it going? Oh, not too bad. Well, today we're going to be talking about a recap of this year, us starting the podcast, and looking at what's going to be going on with us and everything else that we've got going on next year and building out our hopes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I think we're going to hit the ground running pretty hard.
SPEAKER_01:I agree. We've got a lot of fun things coming up and got a lot of interesting things on the horizon. As I've talked about before, I've wanted to do Adepticon. I've wanted to see about going out. Now that the Adepticon webcart went out, that's really interesting. I mean, I'm kind of excited, if I remember correctly, they've got the two-player tournament. It's 50 points a person. Yes. And that's on a Wednesday, which I intend on taking vacation that entire week. I may end up out there.
SPEAKER_02:Nice. Those tournaments are ridiculously fun.
SPEAKER_01:You know what? I don't think I'm gonna do well. I don't think I'm gonna place very high, but you know what? I am going to go out there and get stopped on. Nah.
SPEAKER_00:I think every time Chris and I have done a tag team tournament, we've gotten hosed.
SPEAKER_01:I do remember you guys did, what was it, the MCP, and they didn't even move you guys or anything. The judges It was awful.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, we were on the same table for like three games.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because the judges were right. The judges were like, Yeah, you guys can just sit there. Don't we need to move?
SPEAKER_02:No. At one point we just took the terrain off our table and just took one from the table next to us. And just like, we just want something else to play on. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And then the TO started trying to give us crap about it. I was like, listen, man, you've had us on this table for three games.
SPEAKER_02:It's like move us.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. There's, you know, easily 12 other tables that are just wide open that aren't being used. Right? So if you're not moving us, I'm bringing another table to us.
unknown:Hey.
SPEAKER_01:And normally, normally I would say respect the TOs, let them do what they're gonna do, but if you've sat at the same table for three rounds, yes, you need to be moved.
SPEAKER_02:It's not even like we were the worst ones and it was the bottom table. Like there were more multiple tables on either side of us, so it's not like we couldn't move somewhere else. Right. Well, that's fair.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Those guys were clowns.
SPEAKER_01:Hey.
SPEAKER_02:You know what? Audience thought was funny too. They're just like, you really've been here this whole time. It's like, yep. You guys doing that bad?
SPEAKER_01:Well, yes, but no. Yes and no. Yeah, I I I don't think we'll do that bad. I just gotta start looking into who's gonna be going out there. Is NJT going to be out there with one team, two teams, whatever the case may be? I would like to ideally possibly get two teams out there, but I don't know what that's gonna look like.
SPEAKER_00:Again, it's gonna get those bottom two spots.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, absolutely. Because then I can say at least one of us wasn't on the bottom. It's true.
SPEAKER_00:That's what I'm saying. And the other one gets the wooden spoon. Yep. It's gonna be a tough tournament to get into, though. I think there's only 16 spots.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Which I figure if I go ahead and try to sign up at least one now and try to get in. But it's something that I do want to go, and if not, I'm gonna be seeing a bunch of people out there.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I know people that are coming up that are very excited about coming out, and I'm very excited to be out there. And if not, you'll see me probably wandering around, if not all of us, and we'll be wearing the NJ T-shirt, so come up and say hello. Mine's yellow. Yeah, I was gonna say Chris has yellow. We have another uh one of our gaming group, he also has yellow, but for the most part, and the reason why it actually came up as yellow was because it was an accidental ship to us. Chris said, I'll take a yellow, but the size was like a child small, which it ended up going to Joe's wife. So she has that one, and then I think I also got her.
SPEAKER_02:Doesn't Paul have a yellow one too?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, Paul has a yellow one, you have a yellow one. I also got her a pink one. Uh Joe's wife has a pink one, which I might end up ordering a pink one, because I I enjoy pink. I think that's uh I think it's actually a good color on me. But otherwise, we have the like this uh the heathered gray, which I really, really love the look of. I've also got a military green, and then I've also got this almost like a cornflower blue, which is a lighter blue. And that one I'm hit or miss on. The gray one looks shit. Yeah. I've worn it a few times. There's some pictures of me wearing it. I'll put it out there to the listeners. Hey, if there's any uh particular colors that you would think our logo would be good on, go ahead. Make a comment, suggestion to us, and let us know. We're we're looking to branch out a little bit.
SPEAKER_00:Crucible guard green.
SPEAKER_01:Nope. Nope. So fire. So what red, maybe?
SPEAKER_02:I'd drive some orange. Oh yeah, and going back to the the Adepton stuff. So like the last two years, once it the stuff went live, it's like the site's crashed because everybody tries to get on it.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:So hopefully they've figured that out this time around.
SPEAKER_01:I w I went on it. It was after you posted it in our text thread that you posted about it. So I went and I looked and it was working.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, but it hasn't actually gone to like register for the cart yet. Oh, that starts January?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, January, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, that day, it's it's usually that Sunday. And and like like we say, if there's 16 spots for this thing, and people want to get in that, like everybody's jumping on and gunning for that thing.
SPEAKER_01:It's in the middle of the week, so I I can't assume that it's gonna be that desired. Especially if it's early in the morning, too.
SPEAKER_02:And I will say the saving grace of some of those things. Like if you get on the wait list and there's enough people on the wait list, they'll like another like four spots or whatever. Sometimes they'll even go from like up to 32.
SPEAKER_00:So going from like 16 to 32 if there's enough of a wait list. Yeah. They certainly have the table space for it. Right. Because I forget what they called it, but it's basically open play, and I think they had like 64 slots or something open for it.
SPEAKER_01:Well, and here's another thing is if not, if there's open play areas, I say we just get out there and we play a little bit of our games too. Yeah. It's like 10 bucks for the open play. Yeah, whatever. I I'm in for it. Maybe we'll figure out a day that we'll be out there and solidify it and go from there. And maybe even do a live recording. I was gonna say, we'll even do a live challenge. We'll record live from there. Uh if that is the case, I cannot promise what the audio is gonna sound like. I will do my best, but have people come out here and chit-chat and get a little bit going on.
SPEAKER_00:And then uh speaking of tournaments, we're actually going to be running one. That is correct.
SPEAKER_01:We are looking at having a tournament, a we'll say very beginner-friendly tournament, and it's going to be on January 18th, 2026. Yep. All right, and that's gonna be down in Highland Park, Illinois at Second City Games. Yep. That's true. All right, look at that. Big noggin on me today. It's true. Yeah, we we had walked into the new shop. I had mentioned about them before, and after talking with him a little bit, he had mentioned that he was excited about War Machine and seeing us in there, seeing how much energy we were bringing. He was very happy and positive about it. And then when we he mentioned about wanting to look into having an event, I said, Well, you know, we're kind of looking at a major rules update a a couple days later. And he's like, Well, we can still get something on the books, get something done, and kind of go from there. And I was like, All right, you know what? Let's, yeah. Can do a 30-point beginner-friendly. We're gonna do, was it extermination? Uh, execution. Execution. We're gonna do that so that way it does have some of the build into it. We're not gonna be worrying about objectives, it's gonna be just that, it's gonna be fairly simplistic, and it'll give people a chance to throw down some armies and get them going.
SPEAKER_00:Yep. Bring a command starter or something that's roughly command starter equivalent. Gotta take one Jack or War Beast, one solo, one unit.
SPEAKER_01:And then whatever else you flush it out with. Yep. And then that way you can dive on in. We are encouraging prime lists, but if you're new and you're coming back in and you want to join us anyways, we are open to having Unlimited. So you guys can bring in whatever armies you are. If you do send us the lists ahead of time, that way we can go ahead and kind of look it over, make some suggestions and go from there. I do believe that this is also going to be on long shanks. Uh I think Mike's the plan. Yeah, Mike's was talking about having it on long shanks so that way you can register ahead of time, and then that way the list can be posted, and then we can between us, we'll look it over and then make any modifications that we need to.
SPEAKER_02:Because there's ways you can upload your list straight into the long shanks.
SPEAKER_01:See, this is all new to me. I still haven't made my long shanks account yet.
SPEAKER_02:Get on, bro.
SPEAKER_01:I I know, I need to.
SPEAKER_02:I mean, I just know this from because we use that for Marvel.
SPEAKER_01:Which I'm gonna be leaning quite heavily into that. Because again, there's I have no qualms about admitting when I have a lack of knowledge on certain things. And a lot of tech is one of them. And especially since I don't have long shanks, but I know that that is kind of a criteria at this point, because even when I was doing some stuff years ago that wasn't much of a thing, there's all like pen and paper lists.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. As far as like TO software goes, it's really nice.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and and I've seen it, I've I've been on it, and I I go on there and I look and I do all sorts of stuff, and I understand it from that perspective, but being on the inside of it, working with it, and kind of going from there, I don't, but it's gonna be something I'm gonna have to learn here shortly. For sure. Another great thing. Pre-orders went live for KithGuard. Amen. I'm stupid excited. Have you ordered yours yet? Uh, that is going to be something I've actually reached out to Torsten and Harvester, and we are going to be uh Chris and I are gonna be getting some. Nice. And uh we're gonna be pre-ordering there. So again, if you listeners, go ahead and order through them. Remember, use the code NOT justTactics10, and you'll get a 10% discount on that. Solid. I will be posting actually some of my photos that I took when I got my order from him, when I got my two books, my Boom Howler, my Madame Moriarty, and my two Frozen and Forgotten sets, which by the way, the boys are absolutely loving, and they are getting ready to actually start to build. Nice. When they start building, I'm probably gonna take some photographs because they're a little gun shy on building it. Eli has built models before, and he's built like Gundam models and things like that. John has built other war machine models, but they were all the old resin kits, so it's all like three-piece, yeah. It's all like drop here. Uh head arm, arm. Correct. And and he's built like Age of Sigmar and stuff like that, but all those were much easier to build. And even then, I actually had a little bit of a uh uh an interaction on Reddit where somebody had said that they found the Frozen and Forgotten set to be very complex. And I I did respond saying I followed it number by number, and I didn't find it to be super difficult, and I found it to be pretty straightforward and everything fit well together, and I was interested in what what issues they were having, and I haven't heard back. But again, if any of our listeners do have these issues or anything like that, share them. Email us. And the reason why is because you might not be the only one. And if you do notice something, maybe I maybe you got a bad set. Maybe I got a really good set. I I don't know. And that's the reason why I always encourage our listeners to communicate with us because that way we can help and share and talk about this stuff. On a different note, I did have a listener reach out to us. At first there was a comment, and then there was a direct message. And I'm not gonna normally I read out our comments and other things like that, but this was a little bit more sensitive of nature. And they had talked about how they had lost a loved one, and that their friend group had brought them back into War Machine, and they found us, and they had found our show, and it really helped them through their struggles that they're having. And I shared with them something that I haven't really talked about on the show because I I I don't want it to be in that nature, but this person inspired me to kind of talk about it as well. I had mentioned earlier on about how I got started in the game, and how I got started in this hobby, was back in '99, I got the two-player Warhammer Fantasy Battle Starter set. It was for my brother and I. Well, the thing that I didn't mention was he had passed away ten days before Christmas. So we never got to open that box. That half of the box went his half went to my cousin. And I kept my part. And that's how I have moved and continued on. It's now been 26 years. Uh at the day of recording, it's two days past that. And I truly relate with this person in the fact that this hobby helps. This hobby forces you to be social. It forces you out of your comfort zone and really gets you to interact and get your mind distracted. And I felt inclined to share that with our listeners because it's a beneficial thing.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I want everyone to know that this game can be a lot more than just slapping paint on a model and putting it out there. This can be something that's helping somebody else heal through trauma or go through a different event. And absolutely, it it just it blew my mind that our little corner of the world was helping in that way. And to know that not just my little struggle that I I shouldn't say little struggle, but my struggle that I had this 26 years ago is relatable to somebody. And that's the reason why I felt so inclined to say it and talk about it now. I mean, these two guys, they know. Joe knows. A lot of the guys that are very involved and very close, they know. And that's why I wanted to put that out there is because I want other people to feel inclined to talk about this stuff, and if this is, great. If not, not a big deal. This hobby has so many different facets, and I have found that it's healing, it's frustrating, it's it has its laughable moments, and you might as well, and hey, you get to make a bunch of friends along the way. Amen. Yep. What are you guys looking forward to in the new year besides the tournament? And Adepticon. And Kith Guard. Oh, yeah, we gotta go back to Kith Guard.
SPEAKER_00:I am very excited about Pharaoh. That's the pig folk, right? It is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say, you got alligators and crocodiles and pig folk, oh my.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:When they say they're doing those, like March or something? Uh January. Yeah. I was gonna say it's right right around the corner. Yeah. Because they've been releasing Dark Operations, and now that they've finished Dark Operations, it's going into Pharaoh. That's fair.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I think it's either February or March is when Infernals start. Yeah, that's right after Crucible Guard ends. Yep.
SPEAKER_02:Because they follow the release schedule that Crucible Guard do.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_01:And there's a new big Inferno model that's coming out. Was it Infernal Master?
SPEAKER_00:Yes, they are adding a new master.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Ooh.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. And I believe that the uh like Black Friday chit-chat on TikTok or whatever. They mentioned it. Yeah. And something about summoning a colossal, I think. Yeah, something like that. Summoning a colossal?
SPEAKER_01:I think so. They have a lot of summoning mechanics where you do not want them to go first. So it's probably a garbage colossal, but still a colossal. Right, right. Even a garbage colossal can still walk through buildings and terrain and destroy them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:The garbage colossal says like fifty some health. Yeah, right. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Which for those that play infernals, hit us up. I'm really interested in them. I want to know the mechanics. I'm very interested in them. I don't typically play evil armies, but color me intrigued.
SPEAKER_02:I'm interested in seeing those in action.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, you'll get your chance.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say, I was like, you're gonna get your chance because we know Angus is gonna be printing them up like crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:It's true. I do have about 30 points of infernals already.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, then you should play those at the tournaments. Oh, by the way, our tournaments are gonna be 30 points. If I didn't already say that.
SPEAKER_00:I I feel like bringing infernals might be a little rude.
SPEAKER_02:They could be. Let's be honest. I can't I don't think I'd probably amount of time so we have told Angus, like, oh, you should bring this to the tournament. You should bring this one. Yeah. Ombre, Crucible Guard, these guys, K Dor.
SPEAKER_01:I I appreciate the fact that Angus was looking at the rules and goes, okay, so I'm not bringing three juggernauts. We need to bring a unit and a solo.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I can bring two juggernauts and solo. A solo and a unit. I was like, oh my god, for real? Okay.
SPEAKER_02:I'm bringing Plugger. Yep. That's a good choice.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say that's the only way we're gonna be able to kill two of them.
SPEAKER_02:Ah. Yeah, the other day when we were at not this last time, but the time before when we're at the shop, Plugger killed one of those juggernauts in one turn with his decapitation.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Versus I've ever seen a juggernaut go down.
SPEAKER_01:But what you didn't see was after that was Angus smashing a plugger on the battlefield. Well, naturally, but No, no, no. I mean with his fist. He like smashed it. He's like, how dare you? Yeah, he's like, how dare you smash? No, it they were teaching uh a newer player at the store, I believe the person listens to the show.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. But they came out and uh they were playing, it was their first game of Mark IV, or first game in general. They came out, they went up against Angus, and Chris was kind of coaching on the sidelines, kind of helping him out, explaining how to do things, and I was busy playing my son, and he just all of a sudden a juggernaut gets ripped apart, and Angus was like, uh huh. Yeah. I mean, for a minute there, I thought about switching to gravediggers, but I dude, I'm saying I I want my Black 13 to turn into a Gravedigger Legion. I've been saying that for a while. I just need to get the models.
SPEAKER_02:Bring it to the tournament.
SPEAKER_01:Uh so yeah. Yeah, I believe me, I thought about doing like if I could a deuce an Alistair cane with a plugger, but that's too many points. Yeah. Put both of those down in 50 points, it's gonna be a bad day. Yes. Drop in the black 13th behind that, and oh god, that's gonna be a lot of fun for me. I can leave Bastion Falk out of it.
SPEAKER_00:Although, if I had 50 points to play with, I think I could run three juggernauts and two marauders and then two units of mechanics to heal them up. A timeout, timeout. Why not five juggernauts? Because I want two units of mechanics.
SPEAKER_02:Four juggernauts.
SPEAKER_01:And field allowance can't go higher than four.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:All right, that sounds like a whole bunch of nonsensical garbage to me. And I can't.
SPEAKER_02:I mean I only support it, but that's the rule.
SPEAKER_01:No, I I no, I know. It's yeah, because what what is is it three for their field allowance? Or is it four? For a juggernaut? Four. It's four. Okay. Well, I mean, that makes sense. It it has a weapon. Yeah. Well, I mean, besides its other, you know, punchy fist. Yeah. Which even that's more than some people's normal weapons. Dude, I was gonna say, I was like, and even that isn't great.
SPEAKER_00:No, but juggernaut is a great little platform. I love it. Slow as garbage, but when it gets there, it delivers.
SPEAKER_02:If there's no field allowance, you put ten of those at 100 points. I'd do it.
SPEAKER_01:I'd hope so. Sortia 3? Sortia 2. Oh, Sorja 2's prime.
SPEAKER_02:No Sorja.
SPEAKER_01:He plays nothing but Sorsha. Come on. I know.
unknown:I know.
SPEAKER_00:To be fair, I'm thinking about bringing out Harkachev. Was he like the mini caster? Or no, it's Joseph. Yeah. Harkachev has like the giant wooflebat.
SPEAKER_04:The giant wiffle bat? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, he posted the picture in our chat. Didn't you? Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. My phone shuts off at 7, and when you guys talk till 1 a.m., I don't know. And then I get like, I wake up to 700 plus messages, and I'm like, guys, read them. That was last night. Yeah, yeah. I know. I woke up this morning. I was like, geez, what? Like, what happened? We found a sorcerer three.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I'll never use you, but I want you to to the sorja collection.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Yeah. I will wake up and I've talked about this before. My phone goes to silent at 7 15 every night. And if I know there's like a lot of active conversation or if I know there's important stuff going on, I will actually turn off my sleeper. And that way I can stay up and I'll be active with whatever. Otherwise, some of the uh listeners that I do engage with actively, I have uh I've let them know, being like, hey, just so you know, if I stop texting after this time, it's nothing against you. It's us, I'm going to bed. I try to go to sleep. I'm usually not asleep till 9, 30, 10 o'clock, but I try to wind down, get away from my phone, let my mind turn off, and actually try to get some quality rest, which does not happen. 10 o'clock. That's why I start painting. I know. And I wake up and I feel so bad because uh Chris has been painting my chimera and he's posting all these pictures and they look great. And then he'll post a picture, and then I'll get 70, 80 text messages, and I wake up and I don't even realize that he gave me a picture of what the model looks like, and then I wake up the next morning and I see it on Facebook, and it's already been there, and I'm like, Looks great. Then I see it in our text thread from like 12 hours ago, and I'm like, oh, sorry, looks good. He's like, I know, I already saw it on Facebook. Thanks, man.
SPEAKER_02:I'm like, I'm trying. I got one more left, just the leader.
SPEAKER_04:Well, I gotta finish the base of the big guy tonight. And then I got the leader. That's that set will be done.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:They're looking sharp. Yeah, they look really good. Then I gotta move on to Tommy's crooks.
SPEAKER_01:Not gonna make him paint his own toys? I was gonna say, I'm like, you gotta have him paint it. At least paint one. He's gonna do some.
SPEAKER_02:But he wants me to do his own. Like when they die in our battle, he moves them onto my painted desk.
SPEAKER_01:Just like, this is why they died. They're not painted.
SPEAKER_02:It's like mental warfare, it's like paint this thing.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And that's when you sit there and be like, yeah, they'll be painted when you paint them. And I have that issue with John currently. So I was like, hey bud, I'm painting. You want to come over and paint? He's like, Yeah, I really want to. But I also really want to play games right now, too. Right, well, you know, if you want to do the tournament, your stuff has to be painted. And he's like, Yeah, yeah. Back to the video games. And I'm like, oh, Jesus. Like, come on, kid. I'm like, we'll we'll get you there one day. Imposing that rule on your kids. All right. I posed that rule on myself, too. So that's what I try to do, unless if it's a new army, I'd rather get them out on the field, try them out. If I go, ooh, I don't like this, then you get the back burner pile. But if they play really well, then I'll probably pull them out.
SPEAKER_02:Those friendly battles are for, though.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I don't know. Are we gonna impose uh paint restrictions for this? No, I don't think so. All right. I mean, not on the general people. Like I am. I was gonna say, I'm like, I know as far as NJT goes, I think that we should absolutely have a mandate that we are gonna have fielded painted armies. And honestly, in my opinion, if you don't have painted armies, come on out. I'm going to have multiple armies on hand available that if you don't have any models, you still want to come out, you want to try your hand, come out. We'll have more than enough people. We'll actually probably pair you up against somebody who knows the game, and we'll get you in some games while we're doing that as well. I mean, I'm okay with loaning my stuff out, and I have at least four painted armies that could be fielded for that.
SPEAKER_02:For this tournament, I'm gonna use one that I don't want. Like, I'm not using trolls for this tournament. No. Well, all right, I'm not using Dunborn in this tournament. If the Bear Rider shows up, maybe I'll use the Storm of the North version.
SPEAKER_01:Do you have any solos, extra solos? Like in general? Yeah. Or of trolls? Trolls. Okay. Well, the reason why I'm asking is because Zach has those those ones, and he has that big list that you gave him for all those trolls, and he's like, Yeah, he's like, I'll start doing that. And I was like, I looked at the list and I was like, you have three creatures in a unit, you don't have a solo.
SPEAKER_02:Correct. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_01:I told him, hey, start playing with them. We'll get you into something, and then we'll find if you like them, I will order you stuff on eBay. I'll find something to get you what you need to be able to field for the tournament. Yeah. Because I think he's gonna come out and he's gonna want to play. Awesome.
SPEAKER_04:Yep. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:I should have plenty of that stuff too, if he wants to try something out before he buys it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and he's even talking about getting stuff for the kids and everything else, which I think that'll be cool and fun.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I'm thinking I'm gonna try out the the circle folk for this tournament.
SPEAKER_01:Alright. But but then I have Do you need circle rock guard people? Because I have that too. No, he needs Griffins. Oh, that's true.
SPEAKER_02:Have Griffins.
SPEAKER_01:You don't have to have enough. How many do you have? I have eight. Oh, that's nope. I was gonna say, I'm like, that's not enough. You need 12.
SPEAKER_02:There are five built, three are in a box. Build them. To be fair, I just bought more super glue yesterday, so now I can build them. Excellent.
SPEAKER_01:So one of the things that Angus and I have been peer pressuring uh Chris here is that there's no excuse on why he can't have 12 Griffins in a hundred-point list, because with field allowances of four, that only adds up to 92 points. Yeah. That's true. I won't fight that list. Chris doesn't want to have to deal with the fury management of all that list. Well, that part I don't care about.
SPEAKER_02:So he's buying four more of them. Even Tom, when we're playing, is like, Dad, why are you using all these griffins? Because Angus told me to.
SPEAKER_01:He's like, they're not good. But Angus told me to, so I need to concede to his will.
SPEAKER_02:Just out of principle, yeah, I'll do it.
SPEAKER_00:Why not? When Grim King comes out, I'm running like all eight Krabits. And those things are garbage.
SPEAKER_02:Well, do that, and then you have to get the four horsemen, just out of principle.
SPEAKER_00:Uh what are they called?
SPEAKER_01:The four horseymen.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that might be tough because those are a uh Riot Quest model. So they probably won't get Bummer STLs.
SPEAKER_01:Probably not. But I know that I think they talked about it on the War Manchester podcast. They I believe that they talked about the four horseymen and I saw them in action and they look hilarious. Yeah. Yeah, because they're like little hobby horses.
SPEAKER_02:Well, they're they're sticks with like real horse heads that were cut off and put on these hooks. And the little rumbling things ride around on them. Nice. Like they're the hobby horses. Okay. Worse, but better. And then there's one guy in there that's riding on like a rocking horse. I thought it was hilarious.
SPEAKER_01:That's right, because you were sending us pictures from that one tournament.
SPEAKER_02:And they had the double slaughterhouse, too.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And that was the Warcaster was the uh the child. The child. Yep. And by the way, I actually sat there, looked at Chris's model of Gunborn. I stand a little corrected. I looked at it the model a little bit closer and I was like, uh no, he does kind of have the troll waddle thing. Not nearly as bad as what it is in the in the the tank, but his tanky's let himself go a little bit. Yeah. I mean, yeah. Well, when all of a sudden you don't have to walk around anymore. You just roll around in a tank, you might as well. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00:What? Tom Cruise.
SPEAKER_04:He's the inventor of the hoveround. I have no idea. Not the actor. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01:Shameful. Is this kind of like your music that you were playing before?
SPEAKER_00:No.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. Speaking of the case.
SPEAKER_00:There was a mobility chair.
SPEAKER_01:Nope. Nope.
SPEAKER_00:No, no. There was a mobility chair called the hoveround. Okay. And it was invented by a guy named Tom Cruise. Okay. And what what's the hover round? It's a mobility chair.
SPEAKER_01:R right. So it's like a rascal?
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:And Gunborn now has a mobility chair.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. That's got massive guns and Yeah, it's a battle chair. Yeah. I'm I'm about a battle chair. That's fine. Does he still have legs? I can assume so. Well, can you see them? If you can't see them, do they exist? No. Okay. Alright. Angus is on point here. That's why he's got the hover round. Yeah. Because he doesn't have legs anymore.
SPEAKER_00:I'd be very surprised if you assemble the model if that model has legs.
SPEAKER_01:You know it's not. It's gonna be just like the Commissars in the stupid 40k tanks. Yeah. Yeah, you just put them on top of a Lehman Ross. It's just this dude just like halfsies.
SPEAKER_00:Torso in the couple.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. That's what the Ledfoot and Treads model is. It's just him plop on the top of the tank.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Yeah. But then you've got Dozer and Smig, but yet Smig is hanging out just fine with his feet. I don't know. I don't know if that's true or not. Well, I mean, he's not in anything.
SPEAKER_02:He just stands on his back. Right. Just I really would like it if they're updated too. Dozer and Smig? That'd be nice if they had a Mark II version or a Mark IV. He might be an 80.
SPEAKER_01:I hope so. Oh, he could be the super heavy. Yeah, that'd be your 80. You should see Chris's face right now. He's like, ooh. If that's the case, that'd be awesome. I mean, there there is that one that uh they there's one that has like a Codor canon.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And I want to say he was on an 80.
SPEAKER_02:Maybe it's him.
SPEAKER_01:But I didn't see a smig. They're gonna fight Death Jack. And they did I want to say they did say that there was gonna be some 80s out there with him. I don't know. We'll see. I hope so. Maybe it's Dozer and Smog, because Smig didn't make it through the Infernal War. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:He might not have made it from the truck from the whatever, the north down to the Newland. I don't know if Dozer would allow for Smeg to be eaten or killed though. I mean I 'cause assuming he's pretty protective of him.
SPEAKER_01:I would assume so. He's the one who operates the gun. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:But it does look like they upgraded his gun, though. If that's him.
SPEAKER_04:I don't think it is. That looks like an actual old Jack to me. Sad face. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Here's the hoping that Dozer and Smig will make a return. Because if Gunborn's gonna be fieldable, that was his bonded war beast from before.
SPEAKER_02:And if we're bringing named 80s back, may I Steamforged? I recommend Dozer and Smig. There you go.
SPEAKER_01:It's a wise choice. I mean, I will tell you, Dozer and Smig standing toe-to-toe against Chum was probably one of the highlights of one of our fights.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. He tanks very well. As he should. There's times that even Tom will like surround him and he just gets so mad, he's like, why is this guy still alive? How much more do I have to throw at this guy?
SPEAKER_01:Have I killed him once? Probably. I think that's it. Like out of like the three or four times that we've thrown down on him. Yeah, he doesn't die very often. No. Same thing with Chum. Yeah. Well, and that was the thing, is like I you surrounded Chum and I still stayed put. Yeah. I killed everyone but Dozer in that altercation. Yeah. And then I was getting ready to start swinging away again because I was already healing back up. I was like, all right, get ready.
SPEAKER_04:Here comes the hammer.
SPEAKER_01:Here comes the hammer.
SPEAKER_00:Wow, we've jumped all over the place. Yep. What all are you looking forward to other than Kithguard? That's where we started with.
SPEAKER_01:Oh God. Yeah, we started Kith Guard, then I went into a whole depressive area, then I jumped back out. And yeah. No, we started with Adepticon and then we jumped all over the place. I'm really looking forward to again kind of building out the community that we're already kind of influencing and expanding outwards. And just seeing, especially out there, seeing some of the community that have returned and are starting to show up. And, you know, kind of going from there and just building and continuing to expand and get the people into War Machine like the way we've been. War Machine has basically pulled me away from all of my other tabletop war gaming. And I'm okay with that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'm at the point in my life where it's like we've played a lot of things. We have a lot of things. Right. So it's, you know, it's like one or two things that really take up your time and this is ha this has it right now.
SPEAKER_01:So Right. Well, and that's the other thing is we hold on to it. We don't, you know, let go and as Interest crests and wanes and things like that. But I haven't really I was ramped up for old world. Like super hyped because I was such a big fantasy battle player that I was so excited and then I got into it and I played a few games and Yeah, just wasn't feeling it. No, it wasn't what it was. Now I'll say this about War Machine. It felt right. Angus and I played the one game, and I got stomped into the ground. And I called him on the way home and I was like, bro, I had so much fun. He's like, I know, right? We need to do this more. And he's like, yes. We did. Did you sorcer him? Oh yeah. Yeah, dude. Sorcerer came flying through like 20. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:He's like, do you still have any of your old Kidora? I was like, yes, I do.
SPEAKER_01:Which sorsa do you want? Uh yeah, and and the funny thing is, is I was using the new stuff too. Yeah, because I think I used Use Kane. Yeah. I was gonna say I used the uh Hellslinger. And don't get me wrong, I had all the other stuff too, but I was like, let's go with the new stuff. This is interesting. Yeah, but I wasn't prepared for an 18-inch charge, 19-inch charge on me threat range. Just could not prepare myself for that. Sweet summer child. Oh yeah. Cain basks in the warmth, and that was not what he was anticipating. Oh, by the way, I'm now standing on top of you, and you're paralyzed, and I'm gonna smash you.
SPEAKER_04:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01:And she did.
SPEAKER_04:Well, she does.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. As far as the new year goes, I'm really looking forward to messing around with Sorsha 2 some more. I've gotten a couple of games under my belt with her, and she's fun.
SPEAKER_01:I don't like her as much as Sortia 1, but Well the the main difference that I see is Sorja 1 is an assassin. She shows up and she kills whatever she looks at.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Sorja 2 is more of the team player. She still does work, but it's all about the team activation as compared to it's it's the team feet turn as compared to the Sortia feet turn.
SPEAKER_02:Right. Speaking of team player, how'd that work out for that game the other day with her? Uh remind me. The on Sunday when we played, you popped her feet.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, dude, he like liquidated two armies. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:All right. In our game, it was it was me and Angus. Playing 45 points. He had his Cador, and then we were playing against it was Tom, John, and Tony. And they all had their cricks.
SPEAKER_01:Right. So it was three 30-point groups versus two 45-point groups. Yes. And immediately at turn one, we advance. They advance on us. So me and the boys are the attackers. Turn two, I look and I see sixty points of ours run off towards Angus's like 45 points. And I realize I know that was a bad call because they're going up against Angus's stuff. They weren't built to fight such a heavily armored unit. We all of us could have handled it if we eliminated Chris first and then swung around to assist, then that would have been how we would have done it. But I immediately looked and I was like, well, that's a good game because I'm going to be able to hold Chris by myself, but I'm not going to be able to kill Chris off by myself, because that's a 50-point increase on me. And I I did well. I, you know, I I I handled what was engaging with me, and I was getting ready to start swinging around, but it didn't matter because they were both dead by the time I got through your stuff.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Yeah. I think I popped Source's feet and killed five jacks.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it was a lot. I I legitimately was yeah, because John ran two slayers and a reaver or something. No. It was a slayer, a reaver, and his Bane Warriors, I think. And then Tom ran two raptors.
SPEAKER_02:The Malefactor.
SPEAKER_01:The the Reaver.
SPEAKER_02:And then the his Lord. Yeah, and I ran. I looked over and like, Tom, where's your guy? He's like, they're behind me. He's like, yeah, they're dead.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Alright. Yeah, and then I had I just ran the command starter for the Cricks. And I was doing good work. Yeah, I I was doing good work, but I got nothing here.
SPEAKER_02:Well, the Furies, I couldn't really do anything until I had Moses bless Dozer's cannon to transvert them.
SPEAKER_04:Which didn't I killed one.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Which I was like, it didn't really go so well. But that but that was the whole point.
SPEAKER_02:What was your guy in the back? Hades? See them?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, the Hades, the name Jack.
SPEAKER_02:He killed what? All the Fen blades.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because he just started lighting stuff up and just doof, doof.
SPEAKER_02:And they took out the sluggers and the barrage team. Yeah. Like, well, that was fun.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Yeah. Because he he doesn't have range on you, but he definitely has the uh more staying power and the ability to eliminate those kind of threats. What you made more than a couple tough rolls.
SPEAKER_02:I was impressed.
SPEAKER_01:I I was, because normally it's you you're just like they're dead. And I'm like, no, you gotta make a tough roll.
SPEAKER_02:Well the other night at home on one of our games, I was doing my tough rolls too. And Tom, I made like four of them in a row. What is this? I don't know, man. Yeah. And then he had something with tough, and he didn't make anyone like that's the sellers for you. It's like I give my curse to you. Yeah. One of us has to have it. Take it back.
SPEAKER_01:Like, no. I mean, I have to say, one of the more fond memories I have was us playing way back, was doing the Warhammer Fantasy Battles, and we were doing the Listerman, and we were doing the 120 skinks with blowpipes, and you're walking around having to roll 240 dice. And I remember just being like, all right, just coming out with like a bucket of dice. Yeah. Do you want to roll them in batches of 40? No. I have 120 dice. We're gonna roll these twice. We even did it on like the table behind. Correct. That's what I'm saying. And then we had to keep track of how many were poisoned, so we had paper that we had to tally up. Yeah. These were hits. This was poison, so that auto wounds. And then the oh my god. And then when I was running, when we were doing that stupid event, and you two were doing lizard men against each other with Lord Croak. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:The ruination of cities.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, ruinations of cities. So one of the so mad. Maples was so mad. I thought it was hilarious. He was mad. I mean, it was hilarious, but so you actually have to move your models. All right. So I move him up. Do you go? Nope. Cast and good game.
SPEAKER_02:Just move them up as as much as they're going to be bunched together. Damnation of cities. Yeah. You wish to dispel? No. Nah. No. All right. Your turn. What do you want to do? Yeah. Damnation of cities.
SPEAKER_01:Okay.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:It was to the point that you guys just use CD trays to move up for your proxied armies that it wasn't even you wouldn't move your armies. You just had CD trays that you would slide forward, and that was when you were moving. I think we could knock out what, like, three games in an hour or whatever.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it was foolish.
SPEAKER_01:It wasn't even three, it wasn't even it was you guys were done in like 10 minutes. It was something stupidly fast. So for the listeners, you got a certain amount of points for every victory you would get. And these two would trade. Yeah, it was because you guys would play six games in an hour because you each would get three victories.
SPEAKER_02:No, and then we also got to go up to the counter and roll a dice for extra points. Correct. So the more games you played, the more dice you got. Correct. So we just had like autopilot games.
SPEAKER_01:So these two figured out how to break the system and run up ridiculous amounts of points in these systems.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, because you got stuff for a raffle, a raffle ticket for depending on how many of those things you had.
SPEAKER_01:Correct.
SPEAKER_00:We used our evil for good.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because you guys won like stupid amounts of stuff and you start giving it out, right? Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:It was going to like, what do you need, kid?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:There was one thing that like I actually wanted, which I used for myself. And then everything after that was like, oh yeah, I wanted that wild rider. Alright, here you go. Right.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I remember that. That was funny. And then I remember Maple. You guys can't do that. And then Angus walks up and is like, Well, where does it say that in the rules? Because your rules are right here. You used to be an attorney. And he that instantaneously set him off.
SPEAKER_02:And at one point, and then he changed the rules. Yeah. They can't roll dice anymore. Like, why?
SPEAKER_01:It's not our fault that you made bad rules.
SPEAKER_02:But by that time, they already had so many points.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm like, I remember looking at the list, like there was nobody at all. And then you guys got uh what was small but mighty? What was his name? Brendan?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:You guys had him almost doing the exact same thing with an entire proxied army that he's like, I'm gonna do ruination of cities. Oh yeah. That's that's when that's when he got real mad.
SPEAKER_02:Then he got real pissed. Like not even like joking mad, he was like mad. Yeah, because you guys corrupted children.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because you guys inspired children to break the system. Oh yeah. But again, all right, to be fair, we did it for good. A lot of what you guys did benefited the community in a positive way. At least we weren't putting bounties out on people's minds. Uh that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:No, we just accepted them. Oh, we did. Yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_02:Gosh. Stark cannabis galore. How many do you have? 25.
SPEAKER_00:If you kill this beast, I'll buy you each a smoothie. All right. Deal. I'm in. I could go for a smoothie.
SPEAKER_01:What do I gotta do? Kind of hungry at the time. And we got Chris sitting over here going with like a BK8 stacker. Yeah. Bummerly went away from those. Well, yeah. No exactly why. But yeah. Geez, all these random asides. I don't know how much editing I'm gonna do on this. Very little. I I'm probably not gonna do a whole lot. Because this is just our end-of-the-year rant and ramble. Yeah. I think just a bunch of things that we've had. We started this back, Joe and I started this back in August. And it it's another one of those things that we really kind of just set out to have a creative outlet, and things have kind of, I don't want to say exploded, but things have gotten a lot bigger than I anticipated. And uh today I actually got something from Spotify, and it was take a look at your year and recap, and I started going through it and I started looking at it, and I screenshot a lot of these uh information that I got, and it was very humbling to see countries that are listening to us, and it don't get me wrong, I can see all that information too, but seeing it and having it presented in a way was really interesting, and knowing that our, like I keep saying, like our little corner of the world, knowing that we're doing things that a lot of podcasts aren't, knowing that we have a lot more engagement than a lot of other podcasts. We have a lot more activity and looking at the percentages of where we are, and I I'm still looking at it like this is small, like we are so small, but yet we're doing a lot more than what I ever anticipated. And again, and you know, we've only been doing this for about four months, and you'll hear me say it again, we're just getting started. I'm already looking into the next year. I'm looking at getting a MacBook to help with my editing, because it takes up a lot of space. If you ever see how I'm set up and how we're set up, it is the most It's a little janky. Yeah. Uh I mean, it it it is. Like getting set up for this episode, I I changed our tables around, and we used to have one long table. Now I moved it to two smaller tables, and I thought this was going to be better. And for me, setup-wise, it is better. But then uh moving Angus and Chris with the table, it did not go well. It took like 30 minutes for me to get everything set up. I'm underneath tables screwing stuff in, and and Angus, luckily being the engineer he is, was able to uh kind of go in and he's like, hey, grab this. And so we went through, grabbed a board, and we re-anchored everything in. So now everything's me. It's true. Yeah, whoever. That's my one contribution. There's a collective effort. Yeah. The collective effort was grab the board. I'm up underneath a table. The oldest guy here is underneath the table. Yeah, but you got the best knees. Ah, I don't know about that. Chris is a big fan of Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pib, and apparently now Dr. Chill. Super chill, Dr. Chill. Super chill, Dr. Chill. Yep.
SPEAKER_00:Is it better or worse than Pib?
SPEAKER_02:Oh, it's worse. Nothing is better than Pib.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say, I was like, nothing. This guy in Pib, there's nothing that exists.
SPEAKER_02:Pib is the nectar of the gods. I see.
SPEAKER_01:Uh disagree. Disagree fully.
SPEAKER_02:You can make your wrong opinions, it's fine. The best thing is nobody else in my house drinks it, so it's all mine. You don't drink it when you come over either, so it's trash. So I keep my little drink and I don't have to share.
SPEAKER_01:What was it the one time I came over? Tom started drinking out of one of those uh flavored waters. He starts drinking out of it and he goes, Do you want some? No, no, like you saw that he was like, he goes into the mini fridge and he opens it up, starts drinking, and then he realizes he took the last one. And then he's like, Oh, right. Oh, I'm supposed to be polite here. And he's like, Do you want something? No, kid. You just started chugging out of it.
SPEAKER_02:Now for the usually then no Tom, that's a big step for him. Because usually he'd just be like, eh, right. Start chugging it right in front of you, and you're like, eh, progress.
SPEAKER_01:Well, after that, after that, that's what it was. He's like, Oh, he doesn't want any of these. No, I would have had one if you didn't start chugging out of it, but that that's cool.
SPEAKER_02:He's actually gotten kind of pretty good. Like, if he knows he's coming over or something, like he'll throw some waters in the fridge for him. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I just know I won't remember.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, dude, that's I have to remind every time you guys come over, I get Angus an energy coffee. I usually try to get you something. So I go out there and I usually get a couple energy drinks for myself so that way I can be like, yeah, let's go, after I've worked 12 hours outside. Most of the time when I go in there, oh, I need energy drinks. And I always get to the checkout line and I'm remembered. Part of the reason is to get you guys something to drink, and I'll be in the checkout line. I'm like, oh, and I run off and I go and get Angus a coffee, and then I go in, and then I'm like, all right, good. And scanning through, oh, and I gotta run back out and I go and get you something. And I I'm always ADHD brain after work. I just I need to get home, I need to decompress for like 30 minutes, let the day roll away, and then and then I can go ahead and get started. But half the time I'm always just in a loop of garbage.
SPEAKER_02:That's why usually like on game day, I'll text these guys who are like, hey, remind me I need to bring these things. Yeah. So I'm like, all right, I'm gonna pack it up. And Donnie's like, bring the guys. Like, all right, got them. All right, good. Thanks, sorry. Or I'll get halfway there, and Tom's like, where's the mat? Like, well, that's at home.
SPEAKER_01:I did that too. I was like, guys, I'm gonna bring the mat. I get three quarters of the way to Highland Park, and all of a sudden John's like, Did you bring the mat? Where were you 40 minutes ago? I needed this an hour ago, kid. Well, it's nice the shop has the mats right now, so yeah. Which again, I will I've got mine.
SPEAKER_00:So all of our listeners can see it.
SPEAKER_01:Yep, yep. Uh, and also depending on, I'm not even gonna lie, I might take my Warhammer fantasy mat and cut it down to a four by four section. Ooh. So I might trim off a foot or two feet, because it's six by four, so I'll trim off two feet and make it into a four by four and it'll be vinyl. I don't know. I like the neoprene better, but I'll still take it as an extra four by four. Maybe I might just leave it as six by four and have it marked off. I don't know yet. We'll figure it out. Get some masking tape. Yeah. And then that could be the little staging area, I guess. I don't know. We'll see. One of the people that has been helping kind of promote the show has been handing out like little card flyers through her business for us. Which has been really great. We were even featured at New York Comic-Con and all sorts of stuff. We definitely got some exposure from that.
SPEAKER_00:Very cool.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And I don't know what to do for her. She's just she's a small business, so she wants to help in any way that she can with us because she sees us, she's very excited for us, and she has met tons of people in the nerd community. And knowing that I'm doing something in a uh tangenally related space, she's all about it. And she does sandblasting glasses, and she has like a decanter set, so I actually want to uh eventually get our logo over to her and have her do a decanter set, which I think would be cool. It'd be dope. You know? Yeah. She'd do a glass blown decanter. Unborn? A glass blown? No, but she could probably do a glass and have his face on it. Or do like a troll troll blood or uh yeah, troll blood logo. I just need to get the image and I could give it over to her.
SPEAKER_04:That'd be dope. Yeah, I'm excited for Kithguard.
SPEAKER_01:I am not looking forward to painting that Bombardier troll though. I am. Yeah, that looks awesome. I'm glad you are because I looked at that. Do you know how bad mine is gonna come out looking?
SPEAKER_02:Well, between that guy and then the sniper guy that's like in the ghillieweed suit thing. Yeah. He looks cool to paint.
SPEAKER_01:I am legitimately looking at them and my old ombre. I don't know how I'm gonna do this. I believe in you. I'm glad you do because I'm legitimately sitting there looking at him. I shake so much, I can't imagine trying to paint in between those spines. I'm looking at all those spines and the leaves on the ghillie suit.
SPEAKER_00:I am going to mess this model up really bad. Yeah. I'm a little intimidated about painting the ombre stuff. And you're a good painter.
SPEAKER_01:Both of you two are. And I've looked at the old ombre and I don't know if I can do this.
SPEAKER_02:I mean, like, if you do like the speeds, it does well with like fur type stuff.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and and I'm not too concerned about it. It's just I know that if I can get to a point where I'm not. I I've talked with a couple of listeners and they've said that those um the holders, yeah, they say that that helps. That they some of them have a little bit of a shaking issue, and they said that it helps minimize it. Um, because you're not holding it in such a weird way that it's more of a neutral grip and you're able to minimize that way. And my wife did purchase I want to say it's like 3D printed, but a little painting holder that has like one of the things that can come up and around and you can kind of stabilize against. Is it from Game Envy? I have no idea.
unknown:Oh.
SPEAKER_02:So I have one like that. Which is nice because you can like hold it.
SPEAKER_01:I have smaller hands, so I can't even Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Well, it's also adjustable, so Oh, yeah, this one's not.
SPEAKER_01:Oh. Yeah, it like you can take it off or leave it on. Oh, yeah. So it's not and I haven't used it because I was I tried to use it for old world and it did not work. It was meant for round bases, not s uh, and I was trying to use it with square. It did not work at all. But now, since war machines round bases, I might have to give it a shot. But I want to see about finding one or finding something. I know another listener, tied into the same listeners, uh, has a uh like kind of like a woodworking hobby side business kind of thing. And had mentioned that they were gonna look at something like that. Awesome. It never crossed their mind to fabricate model holders for painting. Yeah, that'd be a great idea.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Let me know. Make a couple prototypes and knock them out in a couple minutes on a lathe. Yeah. I don't know if he has a lathe or not. I would assume yes. Okay, side note, I've seen I think that stuff's really cool. The work you can do with a lathe. But then I've also seen what happens when it comes flying off at like 3,000 miles an hour. Yeah, no thanks.
SPEAKER_00:Just don't stand right in front of it. That's That's the important thing.
SPEAKER_01:I mean yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's a random little aside there. Back into the side of it. Don't wear gloves.
SPEAKER_01:You'll be okay. So what are you excited for, Chris? Coming into the new year. I know Angus and I have talked about it.
SPEAKER_02:Kith Guard's a big one. Echoing what you said, just continuing to build the community, especially the new place. And I another big thing I'm excited about, which it's controversial to some, but I'm looking forward to the new rules things that are coming out in January.
SPEAKER_01:I I agree. I mean, looking at the spell rack going away, I do Alright, I like the versatility that the spell rack could be, but the problem is that it also is rough for new folk. Well, it is rough for new folk, but then it also leads to a lack of creativity, also at the same point. Because now you're running into the same three spells everyone's picking. It it's not everybody's picking Carnage, everybody's picking Ghostwalk, everybody's picking. So you're seeing the same spells manifest itself, which is leading to less of a diversification than what it was intended to be. So eliminating that is now going to force people to pick other casters that are gonna fit better into a play style that they're looking for, which I think that kind of takes it back a step or two for a generation. And I'm excited for that too. I know it at first it was a big like kind of a hiss, but now it's I think a lot of people are kind of embracing it. Not necessarily happy, but they are embracing it because the justification is there. It's saying, hey, it's easier on the new players, and this is gonna make you actually start playing with other casters instead of everyone is playing the exact same caster.
SPEAKER_00:Right. I'm a little worried they won't be able to get Galina up to defense 26 anymore. That'd be a real shame. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Feet uh now for the listeners, you have to have every box checked. Oh, yeah. For every single thing to go properly.
SPEAKER_00:I think it's actually possible to get her up to 28.
SPEAKER_01:I I remember because we were talking about it and I looked, and I'm like, against ranged attack, it was one number, against melee, it was a different number. And there was a few different ways on how it worked. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I think under the best circumstances, you can get her up to 28. Yeah, which at that point That's wild.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I I'd just be like, cool, not let fee turn go. All right, now I'll come in. Now it's 26. Yeah, right. I'm not shooting her at that point. I'm coming in in melee. Right. And see, and that's that's another thing, is especially now with some of the newer models, they're already without the rack.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Which utilizing that and having a new player play against me with that, it made it a lot easier on them because they can just look at it and go, okay, cool, these are my spells, these are what I'm going to be using. Right. And then they start picking from that list instead of having to go in, have to look at 12 different spells and have to make that decision, but they don't even know what they really do or how they mechanically work. But when you have six or seven instead of fifteen, eighteen spells to choose from, it really makes it a lot easier.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:But it also really shows the caster's individuality. Again, I get it. I'm I'm actually really excited for the rules. Uh, I want to see what they're gonna do. The the talking about a change in lethality. I'm I'm interested to see how they're gonna do that. Yeah. But just the general change in lethality, does that mean that the game's gonna last longer? The other thing is, is that you see some of these tournament level games, and listening to some of these high-end top-tier players talk about they're running down to the seconds uh on their timers. Now, for those of you who don't know, at tournament level play at 100 points, each opponent, uh each player has a one-hour time clock, which means at the very, very most, the game will take two hours. Usually it doesn't, but if one player is playing faster and the other player is playing slower, you'll see a uh difference in their time clocks. And when that happens, now with a change in lethality, is that going to make the games take longer? I'm really interested to see how this is going to affect tournament level play coming up, especially with the one-hour time limit, and I'm hearing them talk about how it's coming down to the wire on some of their games at at such a high level. We don't play with clocks, so I I couldn't even tell you. Right. And not to mention with us playing with such large groups on each side, I couldn't even imagine. Not to mention playing with the boys and everything else, trying to get them to work and function in a time restriction per turn. Right. That will be an eventuality I would probably like to get the boys to try, but eventually. In the new year. I I don't even I don't even want to say in the new year. This might be a 27 goals. Yeah, I I think so. I mean, John, yeah, maybe late 26, 27, because late 26, John will be a senior. Eli will be a junior. I mean, I could probably get Eli to work on that, but John is also one of those kids that plays chess a lot, and he's actually competed on that level where I could see him actually using a time clock. If he realizes, hey, I gotta function, I gotta move fast on this, I think he would be fine. But he doesn't have enough games under his belt at this point to learn time restriction. It's I want you to get to know your models, learn them intimately, and then we can talk about speeding it up and getting you to do these things. I mean, the kid just had me buy him a tape measure for the first time.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I was kind of disappointed he got rid of the white ruler thing.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, the uh old privateer press paper ruler? Yeah, thank God. I was so dumb with him trying to measure stuff out with it. And he's like, hold on, let me get this. It's like flopping everywhere. I'm like, dude, this tape measure is almost older than you. I don't need you to use this right now. Just use the tape measure or use the measuring widgets. He was so proud of it though. I know, and that's why I allowed him to do it, because he was so proud of this. Does he still have it? Yes.
SPEAKER_00:Awesome. But he's give it to Chris so we can laminate it. No. Preserve it for all eternity.
SPEAKER_01:I even have another one that he doesn't know that I have. Well, when he listens to this episode, he will. I don't think he listens, which is great. Although I could use the downloads, because then hey.
SPEAKER_00:We could use another listener.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I was gonna say, I'm like, all the listeners the better.
SPEAKER_02:We listen to these episodes at dinner time at night.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, really? Yeah. That's nonsense. Because I know Amy would not listen to this. Tom does though. I I know Tom does, because Tom has actually said that he's like, he's like, yeah, I listen. I was like, that's cool. Like, I love that.
SPEAKER_02:I said usually Tuesdays while I listen while I'm driving around for work. It's my time I'd listen.
SPEAKER_01:See, I I have not listened besides recording and editing. I do not listen. I download the episode to make sure that it's fully functional. But other than that, I don't listen. Especially with you. Yeah, because once I hear, hey there listeners, I'm like, ooh, nope, nope, stop on autoplay. Like, I don't want to hear myself. I already hear enough of myself. Yeah, I I'm glad that people listen. I'm glad that people enjoy our show. I'm glad that people are really rooting for us into the new year, knowing just on Spotify that we're people's number one podcast. I was like, well, why? But that's cool. It uh it's humbling, truly.
SPEAKER_04:More reasons to be thankful. What do you think about the uh new rule book? Oh, alright. I love the new rule book.
SPEAKER_01:I love the art, I love the lore. It has a lot of the things that I've been wanting, and especially like I mentioned earlier that I was I would skip over this stuff because I can't show you a map. Now I can. Now I can say, hey guys, if you have the core rule book, go here. This is where I'm talking about. And I can now make everyone who has it look at the exact same thing instead of saying, go to Google, search this up, and hope that your algorithm is gonna show you the same image that it's showing me. Yeah. Because I know if I search something and then you search the same thing, it's not gonna show the same results.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_01:That's where I've been a little bit hesitant on, but now there is a standardized method that I could say, hey, look at this page, this is where it's at. Right. This is where it I can have you look at the exact same thing I'm looking at, and now we have the benefits of that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I mean, I like I like lore, I like fluff and all that stuff. But I love a physical copy of the rules even more. Like if we're playing a game, it's like, hey, what does this thing do? I like all right, flip open the 20 page 27 as opposed to like go to the app, scroll, click link, click open here, and then get to the thing.
SPEAKER_00:Hitting the search bar, hoping you know the right keyword that's gonna trigger finding what you're hoping is going to find. I just love the physical copy.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I agree. I I really enjoy having the physical versions of things, but I also do appreciate the quick referencing, especially if you know what you're looking for and can't place. Correct. They exactly they all have their place. Um one of the things I haven't done yet is uh go through the index. I haven't done index referencing. And that is uh Angus can attest to this. One of my biggest things is I love referencing the index because I'll flip to it and I reference the index to quickly find what I'm looking for. As it is, that's what it is meant for. Vampire the Masquerade is one of the worst books to index reference ever in history. Man, that book is god awful. I you you you it'll say, like, check this at what page 105. It gets you into an area of where it might be. And it could be plus or minus five pages. Yeah, it could be right. And so you start there, you start flipping forward, and then all of a sudden you'll be in the wrong spot. So you go back to the original page, you start going backwards, and you're like, oh, there it is. And then you find, yeah. Yeah, it is, in my opinion, arguably the worst book ever created for indexing. I've never seen a book that had that rough of time. Now, Warhammer had a few like that. It was only a few um entry errors where the numbers were off slightly. It was like by a page or two, like it would be like page 93, so it'd be on the right hand side, but the actual information was on 92. So it's right there.
SPEAKER_02:It's like during the editing process, they like diluted something that kept it to a jump page and they didn't go back and correct.
SPEAKER_01:But but it the mass grave is just like like they like moved whole sections. Like they just one of them wasn't even like it was like page 42, and it was on like 98, and it was like it was nowhere close. Like I actually got to the point where I was going to go into my book and start crossing out page numbers and writing correct. Because I'm a big one for indexing. So it's like, okay, and yeah, no, that's that's a big one for me.
SPEAKER_02:Wasn't like 40k or fantasy? You'd have like, you know, you look up melee or something, but it'd have like page five, six, twenty-seven, thirty-eight, and yes. Anywhere it might be referenced, correct. It was there, and then you had to go find the things you're looking for.
SPEAKER_01:Right. I remember that. Yeah. And that's that's that's a lot of GW ones, though. Any anything GW, they they do list that, but then it'll list like five different page numbers, but also sometimes underneath it, it'll specify more accurate details. And that just gives you the general referencing area of where information is in regards to that, which again, I like that because then you're like, okay, and that kind of helps you when you're learning. If you just want to read about melee combat, you have all these pages to read. Right. So then you know, check here for all this information. So it's kind of the cheating way of speeding through and you're not having to read everything. And then that way you just don't have to waste a lot of time. Right. Get you more on the table. Amen to that. Right? Yeah, I'm I'm excited for the new year.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:New rules dropping early, because not only is the new rules coming out, the new changes to the game models are gonna be getting their updates, the new Steamroller 2026, is dropping the same day. We have our tournament three days before that. I mean, all within a couple days, it's gonna be a big, big round of a tournament a few days after that. Yeah, I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_02:Forget everything you know from here. You have this new stuff here.
SPEAKER_01:Well, and for us, it's cool. For us, it's it's gonna be it's more important for that for this for us for with this tournament, it's gonna be just get your models on the table. Get them on the table, play a couple games with us, and then uh got a lot of stuff to think about, especially coming up. Not a whole lot of time to do.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. That's what winter break is for. I don't get winter break, so it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say, I'm like, dude, I I work all this is my peak time of year. Like, this is rough. Yeah. I hear that. Yeah. We'll see. See how it goes, and we'll definitely be reporting back with more of that, and we'll probably do a whole episode recapping the tournament and the rules update and everything that day. We'll drop that pretty quickly.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:We may have videos of those some games from that, eh?
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah, I believe so.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And I'm sure we can talk to the guy at Second City and see about getting the same table for the tournament. In case anyone wants to be cool.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Get some of our games recorded and put out there.
SPEAKER_02:Because I know he streams them too from there. Yeah. When they play on that table.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And uh that might be something that we'll end up doing too, is we'll go ahead and potentially stream it. Um and then we'll have the games recorded. And if it's something that our listeners are interested in, let us know, and we can even set up a way to have them be watched. Maybe that's how we start our Patreon. I don't know. Uh I don't know. We'll see. Uh, I've been really toying around with the idea of trying to stream our games or record our games, other than taking random still shots that I'm really terrible about remembering to do. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't do that from our last game.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I I did one on the after games, but not the main one we did.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I was gonna say, not the big one, the one that should have been done. Did I take any? No, I did not. Yeah, because the only thing I have is the models I painted. Then it goes into some of the memes I've saved over the last couple days. But is what it is.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Oh well. Maybe next time. Into the near future. Yeah. Alright.
SPEAKER_00:Anything else, guys? Uh the only thing I can think of is if you're interested in watching us do like an Iron Kingdoms role-playing game, send us a message.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, that too.
SPEAKER_00:Because then I'll know to have been contemplating the idea of doing that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And it would be something that I could probably if we sit down and record that, I can get I I just would need some time to plan that out, get that going. So if it is something that the listeners would be interested in, I do know that there's at least one or two people who said that they think it would be a good idea. But uh if we can get a little bit more than that as far as uh interest generated, then I will start develop uh working on that, and I can get that going. I've been running DD games for a long time, and Iron Kingdoms has even before the podcast, it was something that Angus and I talked about. And now with the podcast, it's even more interesting for me to do. I want to say I've seen that there is somebody who does one, but it's not on a podcast. I want to say it might either be YouTube or Twitch. So I don't think there's any anybody out there doing it like we would be. But I I'm I'm here for it. So if there is genuine interest, I can start working on that. Maybe might have a couple freeform episodes on the in-between while I'm working on that, because then that'll take a lot of my time. But that would definitely be in the new year project, because then that way I'll be able to I'll get through our peak season and then I'll be able to devote more time to it instead of possibly working twelve hours a day instead of eight to ten.
SPEAKER_04:But we'll see. Chris?
SPEAKER_01:I'm good.
SPEAKER_04:All right. Yeah, reach out, let us know.
SPEAKER_00:Happy New Year's, folks. Happy New Year's. See you in twenty twenty-six.
